Conflict
A conflict I see in the "Hitchhikers Guide" is Arthur v. Self. His planet has been destroyed, he is stuck on a stolen ship and all in less than an hour. I would have a difficult time comprehending this as well. When Ford Prefect says "Don't panic" Arthur says "Once i calm down and understand what has actually happened, then I will start panicking." That is an example of how much stress he is under. He will have to come to terms with what happened and that's a major conflict with yourself. Another is the conflict between Arthur and society. The first ship he has encountered he was thrown out of and all because the Vogons wanted to. I would say that's a pretty serious conflict. He tried to win the conflict be saying he enjoyed the poem, but did not succeed.
